Farewell Winter & HELLO Summer!

After what seems like a very long Winter we seem to have skipped straight on to full Summer, from snow at the start of the week to shorts and Piz Puin by the weekend, hurrah! I’ve been itching to get back in the garden and the Easter weekend came up trumps.

The buddleias that took sickly after planting them out too early are now back outside with lots of new leaves sprouting. I gave the herb garden, hanging baskets and potted plants a good pruning (there are some I’ll be highly surprised to see recover but ‘hope springs’ and all that…)

Rhubarb Rhubarb

Delighted to see the rhubarb springing up – we only planted it last year and so we weren’t able to harvest any of it but things will be different this year – lots of plans for these stalks including Gin.

In other news I potted our Buddleias and Berberis (it was a nice sunny, warmish afternoon) what a mistake, the frosts came back and within days the leaves on the Buddleias were dying. I’ve put them into the conservatory for now, fingers crossed they recover.

Buddleias and Blueberries

Although our garden is still covered in snow we’re getting excited about the upcoming gardening year. Our new Buddleias arrived today (Nanho Blue and Pink Delight), along with a Berberis Harlequin. We got engaged in the stunning garden at Augill Castle last Summer, amongst the lavender & buddlieas with bees & butterflies all around – it was a beautiful place and we’re keen to add some to our garden as a little reminder.

I noticed this week that our blueberry bush is starting to bud. We planted it last year but saw no real action on it so fingers crossed it bears fruit this time around.
